Dr Ben Shacklock
MBBS, MRCGP (2008), GP Trainer (PGCE in Primary Care)
General Practitioner
Ben qualified from Newcastle University in 2003 and completed GP training in Newcastle. Originally from Harrogate, he returned to practise locally and became a Partner at Leeds Road Practice in 2010, where he continues to work within the NHS.
In 2023, he co-founded Harrogate Private GP to provide more personalised, continuity-based care. He is a GP trainer, an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds, and has a specialist interest in diabetes.
Outside medicine, Ben is a keen ultra and road runner and was recently Chair of Harrogate Harriers.
Dr Tim Rider
General Practitioner
MBChB (Hons), MRCGP, BPharm (Hons), MRPharmS
Tim graduated with honours from the University of Leeds Medical School in 2004 and was awarded the Masser Prize in Medicine for achieving the highest overall score in his final examinations. He completed GP training in 2008 and went on to become a GP Partner in a busy NHS practice in Harrogate, where he continues to work.
He is also a qualified pharmacist, with a particular interest in medicines and therapeutics. In 2023, he co-founded Harrogate Private GP to provide a service focused on time, continuity and high-quality care.
Outside medicine, Tim enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing golf, and supporting Liverpool F.C..
Dr Joy Shacklock
Joy qualified from Newcastle University in 2003 and completed GP training in the North East. She has worked as a GP in Harrogate since 2008 and was a GP Partner and Safeguarding Lead at The Spa Surgery from 2010 to 2023.
She has a broad range of experience, including roles as a school doctor and Homeless Health Lead. Joy has particular interests in women’s health and the care of children and young people.
Her specialist area is safeguarding. She is Safeguarding Lead at Harrogate Private GP and Clinical Lead for Safeguarding at the Royal College of General Practitioners, and provides safeguarding training and consultancy.
Outside work, she enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends.
