A 30-minute face-to-face GP appointment at our clinic at Winters Barn, giving you time to discuss your health concern with an experienced GP.
If you would prefer a telephone or online appointment please email us first as this is not our usual model of care.
Your doctor will assess your needs, examine you where appropriate, and agree a clear management plan with you. The appointment may include advice, prescriptions, investigations or referral where clinically indicated.
Blood tests and some investigations or additional services may incur a separate fee. We will explain any relevant additional costs before arranging these wherever possible.
Longer appointments can be arranged if you have several concerns or more complex needs.
Face-to-face clinic appointments may be included within some membership or subscription plans, or available at a discounted rate for members, depending on your plan.

Weight Management Consultations
At Harrogate Private GP, we offer evidence-based, doctor-led weight management consultations for patients seeking safe, personalised and sustainable support.
Comprehensive assessment
Your initial consultation includes a detailed assessment of your:
Current health and medical history
Weight history and previous approaches to weight loss
Current medication
Relevant risk factors and underlying health conditions
Lifestyle, nutrition and physical activity
Personal goals and treatment preferences
Your GP will discuss the options that may be appropriate for you and agree an individual management plan. This may include lifestyle and dietary support and, where clinically appropriate, consideration of medical treatment.
Experienced medical care
All our GPs offer weight management consultations, and you can book with any member of our GP team. Each doctor is experienced in assessing weight-related health concerns and the safe use of medicines that may be considered as part of weight management.
You are welcome to continue with the same GP for follow-up appointments where possible, but it is also entirely appropriate to see another member of the team if they have earlier availability or this is more convenient for you. All relevant clinical information will be recorded securely to support safe, consistent and joined-up care.
Any decision to prescribe will follow a full clinical assessment. Your GP will explain the potential benefits, risks, side effects, alternatives, monitoring requirements and costs before treatment is started. Prescribing is not guaranteed and will only be offered where it is clinically appropriate, safe and consistent with current guidance.
What we offer
Initial weight management consultation – £195
A comprehensive medical assessment and personalised management plan, including consideration of any underlying health conditions and appropriate treatment options.
Follow-up appointments – £145
Regular review of your progress, response to treatment, side effects and relevant health measurements. Your management plan can be adjusted where clinically appropriate.
The cost of medication, blood tests and any other investigations is additional. We will explain these costs before arranging treatment wherever possible.
Who may benefit?
Our weight management service may be suitable for adults who:
Have found it difficult to achieve or maintain weight loss through lifestyle measures alone
Have weight-related health concerns, such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes
Would value an individual assessment and ongoing support from an experienced GP
Are seeking a medically supervised approach focused on long-term health
We currently consider initiating medical treatment for patients with a BMI of 30 or above, subject to a full clinical assessment. Meeting this threshold does not necessarily mean that treatment will be appropriate or safe for everyone.
Our focus is on improving long-term health and supporting sustainable progress rather than offering a short-term or medication-only solution.

Ear wax removal is available at Harrogate Private GP for patients who have symptoms such as blocked ears, reduced hearing, discomfort, tinnitus or a feeling of fullness in the ear.
This service is provided by a GP, so your appointment includes clinical assessment of the ear as well as wax removal where appropriate. Your GP can assess for other causes of your symptoms, such as ear infection, inflammation, ear drum problems or other ear conditions, and advise on treatment or next steps if needed.
Your GP will first assess your ears to confirm whether wax is present and whether removal is appropriate. Depending on the type, position and amount of wax, we may use ear irrigation, microsuction, or a combination of approaches.
Microsuction may also be helpful in selected cases of otitis externa, where discharge, debris or wax is blocking the ear canal. This is sometimes referred to as aural toilet. Clearing the ear canal can improve the chances of topical ear drops, such as antibiotic or steroid treatments, reaching the affected area and working effectively. This will only be carried out where your GP considers it clinically appropriate.
To improve the chances of successful wax removal, we recommend using olive oil ear drops before your appointment, unless you have been advised not to use them. Apply two to three drops of olive oil into the affected ear twice daily for three to five days before attending. After applying the drops, remain lying on your side for five to ten minutes to allow the oil to soak into the wax. Do not use cotton buds or try to remove the wax yourself.
If you use hearing aids, please be aware that olive oil may affect or damage hearing aid components if it gets into them. Do not wear your hearing aid in the treated ear while using olive oil drops, and make sure any excess oil has been wiped away before reinserting your hearing aid.

If you require a longer visit Harrogate Private GP can agree this with you before they visit or generally at the time of visit. This is sold in blocks of time and can generally cover one problem per block of time.
-
If someone in your family needs a review at the same time of a GP visit this can be arranged. This will attract a discounted rate. Generally you should advise us of this requirement before we visit so we allow sufficient time to cover an additional consultation.
-
Harrogate Private GP can provide you with a private prescription. We do not make any profit from this. A private script is charged at the drug cost to the pharmacy plus a dispensing fee. Often this is cheaper than an NHS standard FP10 prescription.
-
We can offer blood tests for a range of conditions. The GP will be able to take these at the time of the visit. We provide a detailed explanation of results and what they mean for you. This may require a follow up appointment. Prices are variable depending on the test and number of tests.
-
Should an ECG (electrocardiogram) be required, we can arrange this for you. This includes a visit to your home to perform the test by a GP, a discussion about what the result means with subsequent report by a consultant cardiologist where appropriate.
-
We can offer private imaging services arranged via local hospitals. Please discuss this with your GP at the time of your appointment.
-
At Harrogate Private GP, we provide a seamless referral process for patients who require specialist care. Whether you need an NHS referral (where eligibility criteria are met) or prefer the flexibility of a private referral, we ensure you receive the best possible care tailored to your needs.
NHS Referrals
If clinically appropriate, we can facilitate referrals to NHS services at Harrogate District Hospital, including specialist consultants, certain diagnostic tests, and hospital-based care. While NHS referrals are subject to local guidelines and waiting times, we ensure that all medical reports and supporting documentation are provided to help you access treatment as efficiently as possible.
🔷 Two-Week Wait (2WW) Referrals – If we identify any symptoms that may indicate a serious condition, such as suspected cancer, we can initiate a two-week wait referral to NHS specialists. This ensures urgent access to further investigations and treatment, in line with NHS pathways.
Private Referrals
For patients seeking faster access to specialist care, we can arrange private referrals to a wide range of consultants, diagnostic facilities, and treatment providers. Benefits of private referrals include:
🔷 Faster Appointments – Shorter waiting times for consultations, investigations, and treatments.
🔷 Choice of Specialists – Access to leading consultants across various specialties.
🔷 Flexible Locations – Options to be seen at private hospitals or clinics convenient to you.
🔷 Comprehensive Support – We liaise directly with specialists to ensure continuity of care.We will discuss all options with you during your consultation, ensuring you are fully informed about the best referral pathway for your individual health needs.
