As GP’s we have a specialism in ‘generalism’. Previously you might have thought GP’s know a bit about lots of conditions, but not much in depth. This is no longer the case. We are experienced in managing holistic care for patients unlike hospital consultants. Multi-morbidity (or having multiple chronic health problems) is a GP’s specialism these days. GP’s are officially Consultants in General Practice.

In the last decade increasingly care has moved out of hospitals outpatient clinics and into the community. We are now responsible for the majority of chronic disease management which was previously looked after by specialists. We are pleased to offer this experience and skill to our patients.

As detailed before. GP’s are specialists in holistic care. We don’t just manage one of your conditions but can manage multiple ones that affect you - and balance the risks of treating something at the expense of making another condition worse. Unfortunately, this is difficult when seeing specialists in hospital outpatient clinics who want to prioritise a certain condition.

You might also have some ideas on what the ceiling of care you wish to have is or be trying to stay out of hospital and having the best qualify of life you can have. Harrogate Private GP can offer you multiple visits to manage your condition balancing your wishes and needs for your care and liaising with your family as you wish. You may want to consider having a regular visit to keep on top of your various conditions - either for yourself, or a family member - we can look at offering this too.

Whilst we are not a replacement for an emergency service, we can offer urgent care where appropriate. Should you have an infection or condition you would like addressing urgently we can generally offer you an appointment during the week within 24hrs, pending availability. We are also able to offer appointments outside GP normal working hours which might suit those working during the day. If you would like an appointment with a particular GP that is not available we may be able to offer an alternative GP but would agree this with you first.
